Announcement: Ipoh Car-Free Day (Jan 2016)
This is an announcement that Ipoh Car-Free Day in January 2016 is scheduled for Sunday, 31st Jan, from 7am to 10am.
Ipoh Car-Free Day will affect Jalan Raja DiHilir from the Sultan Yussuf Roundabout right up to the Sultan Iskandar Roundabout. The one-way distance of this stretch of road is approximately 1.7 km. It would be 3.4 km both ways.
A number of activities have been lined up for Ipoh Car-Free Day. Nonetheless, the Ipoh City Council urges Ipoh folk to take the opportunity to enjoy the vehicle-free road by walking, jogging, cycling, skateboarding, rollerblading or even horse-riding!
The Ipoh Car-Free Day Programme is held with the aim of achieving lower carbon footprint in the city as well as to provide additional, albeit temporary, recreational areas for the community.
It is also a step towards raising awareness among vehicle drivers that the roads are to be shared with other users, whether they are on foot, bike or other modes of transport.
Ipoh has many underutilised roads, while some are only busy during peak hours. If 10% of these roads are temporarily converted into recreational areas, the Ipoh City Council will increase 31.437 hectares of public recreation areas, if it is only for that few short hours monthly.
Although everyone is encouraged to walk or cycle to the area, those who drive can park their vehicles at Ipoh Parade, Polo Ground, Greentown Business Centre and Perak Turf Club.

Thanks. I really don’t seem to know which is the designated Sunday for each month. 🙁
Ipoh really got car free day? Guess I rarely go back to Ipoh so not aware of this.
It is actually a good idea to implement and hope people will accept it.
