4,200 People Attend First Ipoh Car-Free Day of 2020

Approximately 4,200 visitors from different racial backgrounds and age groups in Ipoh City and its surrounding areas participated in the first Ipoh Car-Free Day of the year, hosted along Jalan Sultan Abdul Jalil in Greentown, Ipoh.

It was also attended by Council Secretary Encik Mohd Zakuan bin Haki Zakaria, Yang DiPertua Majlis Perbandaran Kuala Kangsar Encik Zulqarnain Mohamad, City Councillors and department heads.

The main theme for this 48th edition of Ipoh Car-Free Day, established since October 2015, was aptly “Chinese New Year”.

Among the activities that were lined up included the 82nd anniversary celebration of the Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No. 5 (TT5) with a mandarin orange eating competition and launch of its Red Festival @ TT5, Chopstick Counting Contest, Cake Cutting, Yee Sang and Lucky Draw.

Other sub-events that also attracted visitors were Zumba and Chinese New Year Fun Ride organised by Speda Klasik.

As with previous editions, this Ipoh Car-Free Day received the support from non-governmental agencies and private corporations such as Ipoh City Watch (ICW) which held a “Stop Plastic Pollution” campaign, Access Kick Boxing Centre, National Population and Development Authority (LPPKN), Kinta District Health Office, Hevea KB, Perkeso, Alpro Physio, Cycledios, Department of Culture and Arts, Tower Regency, ISMA, Daybreak Association, Best Computer, Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat, McDonald’s, Persatuan Suri & Anggota Perkhidmatan Awam Malaysia (Puspanita), Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), Perpustakaan Tun Razak, KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital, and many more.
