It has become the tradition of Syeun Hotel, one of the premier hotels in Ipoh, to usher in the New Year in a grand fashion on the third day of every Lunar New Year, at 1pm. Do take note of this event if you wish to be part of the festivity next year.

As usual, the award-winning troupe from Ipoh Chin Woo Athletic Association provided two pairs of lions and a dragon to bless the hotel with better business in the year ahead.

According to legend, the presence of the ferocious lions and fiery dragon was also to chase away whatever negative qi (energy) lurking around, amidst the beating of drums, gongs and cymbals as loudly as possible. The din first began with the setting off of long, red firecrackers.

The lions “visited” the different business areas of the hotel, such as the management and sales offices, ballroom, coffee house, kitchen as well as lobby, showering blessings upon the staff and bringing good fortune to their work place.

While excited children trailed after the lions and dragon from floor to floor, the excitement level of their parents was just as high, scrambling for mandarin oranges that were distributed by the lions and dragon, symbolising good fortune.

  1. Thanks for sharing such an auspicious celebration! I haven’t had the chance to witness any lion dance / dragon dance this year yet. Hopefully soon =)

  2. Whoa! love the festive mood here. Syeun Hotel is not a new name in Ipoh. I have known this hotel for many, many years. Gong Xi Fatt Chai!

  3. The gold dragon is unique and it is rare at here. Happy Chinese New year. Dragon dance is a must during CNY.
