Watercolour Art Exhibition 2012 by Loo Win

It was disappointing that I wasn’t able to attend the launching of Loo Win’s Watercolour Art Exhibition 2012 last Saturday afternoon.

With the title “Perak – the Land of Grace”, Loo Win showcased more than 60 pieces of watercolour paintings of various sizes, mainly scenes in Perak, Malaysia, particularly in and around Ipoh. There are a few paintings that he did when he was overseas, and there is also an acrylic painting of a night scene of Kuala Lumpur. This is also the most expensive piece on sale at the exhibition, at RM6000. Prices of paintings sold at Watercolour Art Exhibition 2012 by Loo Win start from RM500.

The exhibition is held to promote awareness on the intricacies of watercolour paintings. Loo Win, a founding member of the Perak Art Society in 1970, will also donate a portion of sale proceeds from this exhibition to a local kidney charity organisation, NEESUM.

My Early Breakfast - RM4200

66-year-old Loo Win is a self-taught artist, born in Sungai Siput, Perak, but based in Ipoh. He started painting since his school days but only began painting seriously these past ten years, after his retirement. Painting is time consuming and a piece of art could take him about five hours to complete.

The Harvesting Hour - RM4200

Loo Win’s favourite subjects are architecture, nature and boats. Strangely, when asked why he chose watercolour as his medium, he said that it’s because of convenience! This is also the reason he paints many heritage buildings because they are ever ready models! Ah, what a practical guy!
