Tashi Delek! That’s “How are you?” in Tibetan. It is also the name of a retail shop in Ipoh that specialises in Tibetan fashion and accessories, in addition to Tibetan Buddhism ritual items. Today, I am going to share with you photos of Tibetan fashion, bags and accessories found at Tashi Delek Collections. Tomorrow, check out my post on Esoteric Zone, the store that sells Tibetan Buddhism ritual items, which is located just one floor above Tashi Delek.

Tashi Delek Collections was first set up some seven years ago in Sg. Wang Plaza, Kuala Lumpur, but relocated to Ipoh in 2011, where business took a turn for the better. The idea of this Tibetan cultural shop began when Christine, the proprietress, felt the need to propagate Tibetan Buddhism to the community, due to the many social issues afflicting society.

The main objective of the retail store has branched off a little to embrace charity works, including financially supporting the building of a school and hospital in Qinghai, China and also a school in a remote Himalayan region of Nepal, through profits generated from here.

Despite its name, not everything that are being sold at Tashi Delek are from Tibet, although they are all imported. Here is also where you can find popular Tibetan fashion. I was told that one of them, Dolma, is a very famous fashion designer from Tibet. Overall, Tibetan colours are very bold, and their embroidery very complex. Apparels start from around RM50 a piece, while accessories are sold from less than RM10 each.

As for the many custom hand-made products, they make good investment items as their value continue to appreciate over time due to their rarity. For example, the price of an antique knee-length “cheong sam” could run up to RM9,000 or more.
