After a few months of non-stop attending events and functions, decided to take a break and visit National Stud Malaysia. Used to be known as National Stud Farm… well, just think of it as a racehorse factory!

Although I pass by the farm about once or twice a year, this morning’s visit was my first. It is not open to the public and visits are by appointment only. There is an annual horse sale, though, and everyone could enter then, but usually people would only go if they intend to purchase a horse, or more.

National Stud Malaysia, located along Jalan Chemor in Tanjung Rambutan about 12km from Ipoh City, was the vision of the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. He loved horses and wanted to see if Thoroughbred horses could be bred in a tropical country like Malaysia.

    I visited NSF sometimes in 2001. Very unfortunate that the farm is no longer there. I would like to know what happened to the stallion named REB. Where is he now?.
