1. launch of Renault Captur & Koleos

French car maker Renault just launched its new locally assembled (CKD) Captur this week and Ipoh folk have the opportunity to take it for a spin at the one and only Perak Renault Showroom in Ipoh Garden South (next to Petron). Also launched simultaneously is the CBU Renault Koleos SUV, which is also available for test drive!

I recently had a renewed interest in cars and was excited to check out the new Renault models. Of the two, Captur certainly captured my fancy because of its size. This is a compact crossover, or colloquially known as a ‘mini’ SUV. It’s a cross between an urban hatch and compact SUV. It’s so convenient and zippy, especially for urban use.

Indeed, it is a car that’s most suitable for drivers who prefer some height over other road users. While its size is just perfect for me, what also caught my eye is the new shade of colour: Flame Red.

Other colour options are Pacific Blue, Ivory White or Arizona Orange, but Flame Red is MINE! The Flame Red Captur is superbly attractive, matched with a diamond black roof!

I have to say, people from the older generation prefer Japanese-made cars but younger drivers (like yours truly) do think that European models have way sleeker designs. Audi, BMW and Volkswagen are but a few that come to mind.

Renault Captur features the latest technology of keyless start, navigation system, Bluetooth phone pairing and Media NAV controlled by a 7″ touchscreen (photo #3).

For all of these tech advancement, Renault is probably best known for its expertise in passive safety. Captur has already been awarded the maximum 5 stars by Euro NCAP.

As a city driver, safety is not my primary concern, but fuel consumption is, like most Malaysian wage earners. The weekly yoyo-ing price of fuel doesn’t help matters but I am relieved to learn that the Renault Turbo Control Efficiency petrol engine is not only powerful but fuel economical, at 5.4L / 100km! Isn’t this good news?

The Renault Captur is worth considering, especially now that it is on a limited-time offer at an irresistible price of ‘only’ RM98,000! Otherwise, it is RM109,000.
