Kuala Lumpur’s tram has got to be one of the city’s best kept secrets because not many locals know about it! Starting from Kuala Lumpur City Gallery, the tram goes through two zones; the heritage zone covering the vicinity of Dataran Merdeka and the nature zone, which covers the Tun Abdul Razak Heritage Park.
For a ticket price of RM2 for an adult and RM1 for a child, from 9.30am to 5pm daily, the tram route takes one from Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square), to Tugu Negara (National Monument) and returns to Dataran Merdeka as well.
Embarking at Kuala Lumpur City Gallery, stops are the Chartered Bank building, National Textile Museum, Victoria Fountain, Royal Selangor Club, St. Mary’s Cathedral, Sultan Abdul Samad Building, former High Court Building, City Theatre, KL Railway Station and Majestic Hotel at Dataran Merdeka.
The route continues towards Tun Abdul Razak Heritage Park, with stops at Perdana Botanical Park, Deer Park, Hibiscus Garden, KL Orchid Garden, KL Bird Park, Memorial Tun Abdul Razak, National Planetarium, Royal Malaysian Police Museum, Islamic Arts Museum, National Mosque, KL Butterfly Park, National Museum and finally, Tugu Negara.
The best thing about taking the tram is that the ticket allows the holder to hop-on and hop-off as many times as required, so it allows one the flexibility to stop at an attraction or to skip it, and to plan the amount of time to visit a place, at one’s own convenience.
