Gunung Nuang, Selangor’s Highest Peak

Gunung Nuang Selangor
1. the gateway to Hutan Lipur Gunung Nuang

I first came across Gunung Nuang when I spotted advertisements of the Nuang Jungle Marathon. Little did I know that shortly after that, I would face the challenge of climbing the mountain too!

3. not even midway yet

Gunung Nuang (Mount Nuang) is part of the Titiwangsa Range and happens to be Selangors’s highest peak. It borders Pahang and Selangor and in fact, one could trek from Hulu Langat in Selangor to Bentong, Pahang on the other side of the mountain. Standing at 1,493 metres (4,898 ft), there are three hiking trails.

My friends and I recently trekked 5.2km to reach about midway of the mountain where there is a beautiful, refreshing waterfall. The spot took me approximately two hours to reach and I was happy that I did it, unfit as I am.

7. continue to Gunung Nuang (Mount Nuang)

From the point of the waterfall, it is a steep trek of another 4km to reach the peak, which takes about three to six hours.

9. I found the Prince of Gunung Nuang

If I had thought that the climb up was tough, descending the mountain was a lot worse. The trail was treacherous due to heavy rain the night before and made worse by passing four-wheel-drive vehicles which totally destroyed any semblance of a trail.

As you can see from updates here, I made it back home safely, albeit gingerly. Challenge yourself and see if you can conquer Mount Nuang. Admission is free-of-charge.

  2. Emily, the highest peak will be Mount Semangkuk, nearby Pine Tree Hill peak. Nuang is the second highest 🙂
