Chokyi Gyaltsen Centre Medical Outreach Mission to Nepal

The Mission:
Chokyi Gyaltsen Center (Penang) is organising a medical outreach mission to Nepal to provide a holistic health screening (including medical, dental and optometry), and to treat mild illness to their sangha at Kopan Monastery and Khachoe Ghakyil Ling Nunnery, and they also extend this medical outreach to the underprivileged people in Tsum Valley which is less reached by other medical teams.

The Promise:
Before their beloved Khensur Rinpoche Lama Lhundrup manifested sickness and passed into parinirvana, they promised him that they would continue to provide care to the monks and nuns of Kopan and Kachoe Ghakyil Ling. As we know, the sangha from Kopan and Kachoe Ghakyil Ling have been very important to the development and spreading of dharma.

Hence, from dharma viewpoint, this particular sangha care mission to provide medical care is of utmost importance.

The Team:
The team will consist of 30 volunteers, headed by Dr Leung (who is a Skin and Child Specialist as the Medical Coordinator & Adviser). Other team members include 7 Doctors, 4 Dentists, 2 Pharmacists, 1 Consultant ENT, 8 Nurses, and 8 Assistants. Volunteers pay for their own flight tickets and helicopter fare to Tsum Valley and are taking unpaid leave for this mission.

Patients:
The team is expected to screen and treat up to 3,000 patients in Kopan Monastery and Khachoe Ghakyil Ling Nunnery as well as villagers in Tsum Valley whom many are in need of medical assistance from pre-existing conditions but are unable to seek medical help due to financial restraint and geographical hindrance.

Financial Appeal:
Chokyi Gyaltsen Centre (Penang) is seeking financial support to accomplish this mission. The Centre targets to raise RM50,000 for medical supplies for 3,000 people.
