Central Market KL

Central Market, Kuala Lumpur

Took a whirlwind trip to Kuala Lumpur last week, and decided to stop at Central Market, a cultural ‘shopping complex’ popular among tourists. I don’t remember if I have been to the Central Market before. If I did, it must have been such a long time ago. I only remember my school friends showing off their customized button badges bought from Central Market.

It’s quite tricky shooting photos inside the Central Market building as some shop owners and kiosk holders do not allow photography, especially if they are selling handmade craft and artwork. They don’t want their creations to be copied, you see. It’s understandable but a huge contrast from the friendly pasar Ramadhan stall vendors. Imagine me trying my best to be inconspicuous with my compact digital camera!

Even though Central Market is supposed to be a marketplace for all things arts, culture and tradition, there are also a handful of stalls that sell contemporary gifts. I remember a “boutique” selling chocolates. Pretty out of place here, I think! Anyway, besides retail stalls, there are quite a few eateries. I came across a Thai restaurant.
