Celebrating Jade Emperor Festival @ Tung Wah Tong Temple
One of The Supreme August Jade Emperor (God of Heaven) festivals is celebrated on the 6th day of the 11th month on the Chinese Lunar Calendar, which this year falls on Dec 8. The other is on the ninth day of the first month of the lunar calendar.
The photos shared in today’s post were taken from the Jade Emperor Festival celebrated at Tung Wah Tong Temple, the cave temple where devotees have to climb up 157 steps to arrive at the main prayer chamber, where The Supreme August Jade Emperor sits at the top most level of the main altar.
Topped by the setting off of double firecrackers, prayers were chanted and much food was offered. Meanwhile, devotees prayed with lotus candle, incense coil, joss sticks, joss papers and oil, just to name a few prayer items.
Tung Wah Tong will be celebrating its 141st anniversary at the temple premises with a sit-down dinner on 21st Dec, 2013 (Saturday), at 7.30pm. For further information, call 012-5787748 (Alan).

It is believed that ascending the 157 steps and praying to the Jade Emperor, one is said to have affinity with the God of Heaven.
On the other hand, descending the 157 steps, one is said to be blessed with longevity, good health and prosperity by the God of Heaven.
