I purposely made my way to Ipoh Parade last evening earlier than I normally would because I understood that someone by the name of “Master Lee” would be holding an acrobatic performance at 8pm. Turns out that the show was postponed to 8.30pm.

I have not heard of Master Lee (hence I did not get his full name) prior to his show in Ipoh Parade last evening in conjunction with Chap Goh Meh, the last day of Chinese New Year, let alone seen him on TV before, though the emcee did not fail to mention a few times that Master Lee is a homegrown talent (Made in Malaysia) and that his live performance is more interesting than on TV and that he has represented Malaysia in international events on numerous occasions.

It was quite an entertaining performance even though it’s not “acrobatic” in the true sense of the word. However, I felt that Master Lee’s fumbling with his porcelain jar could be minimized if he had made it his first act before he sweats so much which made the jar slippery and he failed to balance it on his forehead even after a couple of attempts.

Quite a few people were skeptical with his block playing act saying that they are magnetic but after calling an audience from the floor to try his hand “playing” with the blocks in a similar way, the crowd was won over.

All in all, I felt that his overall performance could be improved if he had a younger and more appealing female assistant to help him on stage instead of getting someone older in off stage clothes and a guy to boot! I don’t mean any harm but just felt that it would enhance his overall performance.

I made my way to Kinta City last evening to catch a “drum performance” as written in the Chinese New Year programme schedule. I was telling everyone that I MUST shoot a video of this as I love this performance and would like to have this on video even though I have watched it a few times already. I said that I kept missing the chance for the past few years already so I must not miss out on this too. That was why I went even though the show started at 5pm and you know, I would usually be in bed at that time. LOL

Anyway, I was disappointed that the drum performance wasn’t the one that I was expecting. I really wanted to watch a drum synchronization performance where there would be 15 drummers or so performing at the same time but this one was like a lion dance performance without the lion. But since I was there, I just shot it though I wasn’t happy with it.

After one round at the supermarket, on my way out, I caught this. And thank God it saved the day. It’s a performance by MJ Nada, a local Michael Jackson lookalike. He performed a dance, which I caught on video as you can watch below and lip-synced to “Beat It” which I didn’t managed to get on video. All the more reason to replace my camera. No, I’m not replacing the memory card since this isn’t even my own camera. Anyway, I was amused and entertained by MJ Nada’s performances. Enjoy!

Heh… I nearly forgot to blog about this after uploading my videos to YouTube early this morning. I actually shot them last evening when I purposely went to Kinta City to watch an acrobatic performance by an acrobatic troupe from China.

Yesterday’s performance was the first in a series but there were three shows yesterday itself at 3pm, 5pm and 8pm. I went for the 8pm show. If you know me, you will know that I usually avoid going out in the middle of the day. So hot, sleep better. LOL

It has been a terribly long time since I used this camera that I didn’t realize how desperately in need I am of a larger memory card but then I keeping thinking that this camera isn’t mine so I don’t want to invest in it. I’m going to get my own one day, anyway. Yeah, as if that one day will ever arrive. Hahaha!
