Not Crocs, Just Crocodile

I told my friend that I wanted to buy a pair of Crocs but I went into the Crocs concept store the other day and came back out. No matter how I wanted a pair of Crocs, because they are comfortable and I like their colour contrast, though they may not necessarily look nice since Crocs are an acquired taste, I could not justify spending over MYR100 on any pair of footwear, not just Crocs.

A few days later, I went to Kinta City and although they have been holding a sale for a long time now and I have gone to their shoe department a couple of times and could not find anything that I wanted to wear, I saw this pair of shoes (I call all footwear “shoes”), and bought it. It was cheap, considering it is Crocodile.

Please don’t tell me to shop at the pasar malam just because I used the word “cheap”. When I say “cheap”, I meant the low price relative to its brand name, product, material and workmanship.

I sent a text message to my friend and told him that I finally got myself a pair of shoes, and it is Crocodile, and he replied, “Crocodile or Crocs???” LOL I usually do not get to buy what I want, just what I need.

I went home and told my mother that I got new shoes. She asked me what size I bought and I said size 8 and she replied, “Wah, big foot!”

:-(

Start Shopping!!!

I received a US$50 Amazon.com gift card this morning via email. While I am happy because it came unexpectedly, my dilemma starts now. What to buy???

If you know me personally, you will know that I am this weird girl who hardly ever buys anything for herself. Of course, I do buy things and I do own stuff but they are mostly things that I need rather than want. I have gone past that stage already.

I visit shopping malls almost every evening but I come home empty handed most times because no matter how I want to splash money like a “si lai”, I just don’t see anything that I want to get, or I see it but I don’t think it’s worth the price.

I asked my sister to claim the US$50 Amazon.com gift card but she doesn’t want my “hard earned money” LOL I guess we are both the same.

There’s this joke going around that if retailers depend on us, they would soon go out of business. While I have friends who could easily buy a few pairs of shoes in one shopping trip, I have been looking for a pair of shoes that I like and am comfortable wearing for ONE AND A HALF YEARS!

I am reminded of the time when my late grandmother asked me what I would like to have for Christmas, when all of us were in a shopping mall in KL years ago, and I said I did not want anything.

Actually, I would rather have cash instead of this Amazon.com gift card. So back to square one, “What to buy?” I wish I could upgrade to a Nokia E71 or an Apple iPhone 3G but it’s “just” US$50!
