Century Ride Malaysia 2011 Starting Point

Arrived at Dataran Ipoh (Ipoh Square) at the break of dawn to catch the flag off for Century Ride Malaysia 2011. This annual cycling event is into its 5th edition and it starts at Dataran Ipoh. For the first time, paticipating cyclists get to ride through Ipoh city. Previously, the starting point (and finishing point) was at Bukit Kinding.

I was informed that this year’s event attracted more than 1200 cyclists, including international participants from Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei, Myanmar, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia and United States of America.

Another first for this year’s event is the distance. At 160km (100 miles), it is the longest Century Ride Malaysia ever organised. Although this is a non-competitive event and is not a race, but more a fellowship ride, some cyclists do take this seriously and came well-equipped, some even with Garmin cycling devices to time their ride.

One of the foreign participants saw his bicycle chain snap while on the way to Dataran Ipoh from his hotel and so, was not able to start his ride. It was unfortunate the organisers did not put bicycle repairers on standby to handle such breakdowns. By the time his bicycle was repaired, he was already way behind the slowest rider, though he still gamely rode along the route. What a pity!

The first riders were expected to reach the finishing line at slightly after 11am. I didn’t stick around to wait for them, since I had to leave for another event, unfortunately. So sorry I do not have the results for this Century Ride.

Greetings from Singapore. It was a pleasure to have met you. I managed to hitch a ride with a group of photographers and took some pictures of cyclists plouging the route. I even managed to find my hubby on the route as well. I have not had the time to upload my pics onto facebook yet, but I will do so soon. Ipoh International Run – IIR 2011 is the 16th edition of the annual event. Can you believe it has been 16 long years already? It even has its own theme song! Ipoh International Run is a sporting event organised by Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh (Ipoh City Council) with the support of the Perak State Government and Perak Amateur Athletics Association.

This year’s run attracted almost 14,000 participants; 500 of them foreign participants from more than ten countries. This is truly an international Run and it is most apt that Dato’ Michelle Yeoh is the ambassador of the event.

There were a total of eleven categories. The first twenty runners who finished the race in each category received cash prizes. Right, just let’s move on to the photos…

Hot Wheels Charity Street Party @ Baliz Ipoh

Team Ipoh Super Bikers (TISB) & Micro Legend Club (MLC)

Baliz Ipoh is currently holding a “Hot Wheels Charity Street Party”. As this is a charity event, they are having a promotion on booze, where 10% of total proceeds tonight will be donated to Yayasan Latihan Insan Istimewa, a centre for children with disability in Ipoh, Perak.

Members of Ipoh Super Biker’s Club, also known as Team Ipoh Super Bikers (TISB), and Micro Legend Club (MLC) are supporting this street party by displaying their superbikes in front of Baliz. There were about thirty bikes when I was there earlier but I expect more superbikers to join them later.

In addition, there are three Ferraris. And what are supercars and superbikes without hot models? I didn’t have the chance to shoot the models, though, as I left before they were ready to come out. Also, on hand to entertain guests tonight are Dex Momo and DJ Saint.
