Alor Setar Tower (Menara Alor Setar), Kedah
Just like the attraction of PETRONAS Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, a trip to Alor Setar is incomplete without visiting the Alor Setar Tower (Menara Alor Setar). Similar to KL Tower, it is also a telecommunications tower. In fact, it is the second tallest such tower in Malaysia and the 19th in the world.
Like any other tourist to Alor Setar, I made my way up the tower for a bird’s eye view of the city from atop the tower at 543 feet (165.5 metres). How much do you have to pay? Check this out:
Ticket pricing to the observation deck:
Adult – RM9 (MyKad holder) / RM16 (standard rate)
Child (Age 4 – 12 years) – RM5 (MyKid holder) / RM9 (standard rate)
Senior citizen & disabled – RM5 (Malaysian) / RM16 (standard rate)
Student (secondary school / college / university) – RM9 / RM11 (standard rate)
Student (primary school / kindergarten) – RM5 / RM9 (standard rate)
*Price is inclusive of 6% GST
Opening hours: 9am to 10pm daily
Alor Setar Tower, located in the heart of the city, was opened on 14th August, 1997 by the then Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, who hails from Alor Setar himself. The tower is now a symbol of Kedah state.
Even if you do not plan to go up to the observation deck, you should at least pose for a photo in front of the tower.
