23rd SAS Cup 2014: Day 4 – Malaysia (3) – Canada (1)
Going into the match against Canada, Malaysia knew it would be tough. The Canadians are physically stronger, and they play a mean game. The Malaysians had first hand experience through the three friendlies played upon the Canadians’ arrival in the country prior to the tournament.
According to Malaysian coach K. Dharmaraj, the Canadian style of play is to make their opponents lose their focus, and get sent off from the field. And they were quite successful! Said the coach, “The umpires should have controlled the game better right from the start.”
The Malaysian boys managed to keep their cool after half-time break, and came back playing stronger, backed by a vocal home crowd.
Malaysia pushed on for yet another goal, despite leading 2-1, and by the 67th minute, were rewarded with a field goal via Ahmad Nasruddin.
With this win over Canada, Malaysia have kept their hope of playing in the finals alive.
